Today, American millennials are terrified of having babies. Despite this, Magi and Mike Figueroa decided to bring a child into the world. Photographed in Brooklyn, New York over the course of two years, this project tells the story of Magi and Mike, from their engagement to the birth of their firstborn, Ava Jayne Figueroa. As they become parents in Brooklyn, the couple battles coronavirus, the baby formula shortage, paternity leave, postpartum body image, and the rising cost of living. Through a series of reportage, portraits, and testimonies, these images showcase the resilience and grace of the young couple and their Brooklyn Baby.
